DISCOGRAPHY ORFILIA SAIZ VEGA

VIOLIN & CELLO album

IBS CLASSICAL, 2020. Marc Paquin, violin / Orfilia Saiz, cello

In this album the two great pillars of the repertoire for these eight strings, Kodály’s Duo and Ravel’s Sonata, an explosion of creativity after the dearth of repertoire for this kind of duo during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In contrast to these two great works, we have chosen three pieces of easier and more emotive listening which, nevertheless, we feel are representative of the different vital issues reflected in their composition; from the spiritual conflict transmitted in P. Vasks’ Castillo Interior to the popular frenzy of I. Xenakis. Closing this album is our own arrangement of Béla Bartók’s Romanian Dances, providing our musical contribution to the repertoire for these two instruments.

MOZART 2CD. Piano Trio Complete Works.

IBS CLASSICAL, 2017. TRIO VEGA

Our interpretation tries to match modern instruments with the utmost respect for the articulation and priority of the phrasing, as well as the search for a sound that respects the Viennese style. We have taken advantage of the great sensitivity of our pianist Yasuyo Yano towards this dilemma, as she is a pianoforte specialist confronted daily with this experience. At the same time, the strings use the expressiveness of the bow as an initial phrasing tool, making a «classic» use of vibrato; that is, not as an expressive tool but as an aid for the resonance and projection of sounds.

MARTUCCI Piano Trio Complete Works

NAXOS, 2015. TRIO VEGA

The foremost Italian orchestral composer of the late-nineteenth century, as well as an accomplished pianist and conductor, Giuseppe Martucci was one of a trio of pioneering Italian composers known collectively as Il ponte (The Bridge) who were determined to break away from opera’s dominance in Italian musical life. Together with Giovanni Sgambati and Antonio Bazzini he established a connection between Italian instrumental music and Austro-German Romanticism. Perhaps nowhere is this better exemplified than in the two Piano Trios which show the important influence of Brahms as well as Martucci’s gift for long-breathed melodies combined with pulsing lines and contrapuntal interplay.
